Dr. József Kajdi was the head of the Prime Minister’s Office in the first freely elected government after the change of regime as a State Secretary for Public Administration. He was asked to this position by Prime Minister József Antall. Their acquaintance developed during the round table negotiations, where József Kajdi participated as a delegate of the Ministry of Justice, while József Antall negotiated on behalf of the MDF. Although József Kajdi was not a party member, he nevertheless sat on the party-state side of the round table, so it can be considered special that József Antall found one of his closest colleagues in him. During his three and a half years as Prime Minister, József Antall ended almost every day with a meeting with József Kajdi. This makes József Kajdi’s memoirs, which can be viewed here, extremely interesting and valuable for all those interested in the Hungarian change of regime.
